May was my birthday and started with a relaxing trip to Santa Fe where I marked the end of my month of being sick, it was symbolic.

Here are my march training numbers. I’m a bit behind on posting these numbers, overall I think March was a good month…April however…

I must have missed February so I’ll display it here. As I’ve mentioned my tracking system is very rudimentary. I’m using joesgoals which is a VERY basic website that tracks “goals”. A check mark equals one hour of training. I include my commute to work as being one check for the whole day (I tend to commute every day so 5 hours each week is purely commuting).
February
Week : hours
Week 1 : 5
Week 2 : 11
Week 3 : 8
Week 4 : 9
My assessment. Overall I’m pleased, I feel that I’m getting stronger and the longer days are providing more opportunities to train. Looking forward to PIR starting as that will be a great addition to the week.

January was, in my mind, the first official month of my training. So how did it go? I’ve been using joesgoals to log and track my progress. It’s a pretty cool tool but I’d love to publish it to the public. Basically I set up goals that are worth a point (1 hour) for each check. The goals I have are Race, Ride, Weights, Commute, Run, and Other (XC ski etc). As well I’ve set up some negative marks such as Bad Food and Lack of Sleep. For the Bad Food I mark it if I’ve had anything in marginally bad like a Kit Kat bar. For Lack of Sleep I mark if I get less than 7 hours.
Joesgoals provides reports that I can use to look back. In looking at January I was less pleased. I felt like I was training all the time and am getting stronger but the hours seem low, considering also that I include my commute to work which is about 20 min each way (I’ve debated heavily to what extent this helps or hinders training).
Hours for January
Week1 6h
Week2 10h
Week3 8hr
Week4 11h
Individual Goals for January
Race 0
Ride 10h
Weights 6h
Commute 14h
Other 9h
Bad Food 9h
Lack of Sleep 5h
January Summary
I did one long ride (50 miles) some shorter rides, consistent weights, and a few XC skiing trips. A good month to start the year.
Looking to February
Hoping to extend the time on the bike and will be racing Cherry Pie and Jack Frost.
